Genre
I love Genre. There's genre in movies, there's genre in books, there's genre in music.
Books are divided in to two main groups.
If I were to put books into a scientific family chart, it would look something like this:
So, Harry Potter would be broken down like this:
Kingdom: Book
Phylum: Fiction
Class: Fantastic
Order: Fantasy
Family: Adventure
Genus: J.K. Rowling
Species: the Harry Potter series
Sub-species: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Science Fiction.
I love science fiction. I love writing it; I love reading it.

Lol. I've maybe been watching too much Doctor Who lately....
I finally got to the 11th Doctor (Matt Smith) and I think he is now my favorite (besides Christopher Eccleston. He's just perfect as the Doctor.)
Star Wars. A friend of mine and I are going to do a Star Wars marathon next month. I guess my favorite one of those is the second one. The scenery in it was absolutely beautiful, and I love Anakin and Padme Amidala.
The Hunger Games.
The Maze Runner (My personal favorite Sci-fi series....which, by the way, has another sequel-to-the-prequel coming out next year, and I am SO excited for it.)
I love Historical fiction. I love reading it; I like writing it.
A few of my favorites:
Behind Rebel Lines by Seymour Reit (Actually, this book is mostly non-fiction. It is based off of the life of Civil War spy, Emma Edmonds, who was a real person)
Shades of Gray by Caroline Reeder (DO NOT confuse this with "Fifty Shades of Gray", thanks.)
The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexander Dumas
The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Emuska Orczy.
Fantasy:
Harry Potter J.K. Rowling. My all-time favorite series ever. (Actually, it's always Harry Potter and whatever else I'm reading at the moment.)
Lord of the Rings / The Hobbit J.R.R. Tolkien
The Chronicles of Narnia C.S. Lewis. I love the parallels to Christ in this series.
Mystery (Which is what truly sparked my love for literature.)
Nancy Drew mysteries. I loved Carolyn Keen's series when I was growing up. I was constantly hoping that something...or someone...would dissappear and I'd be the one to solve the mystery. I loved Nancy more than a lot of real people when I was younger. ;-)
The Ten Little Indians (republished as And Then There Were None) by Agatha Christie.
Also by Ms. Christie: Funerals are Fatal (republished as After the Funeral)
I loved the Magic Tree House mysteries, and they were my first love.
This post took me over an hour and a half...I'm done.
I should be back around sometime soon....this weekend maybe???

I HIT 50,000 WORDS IN MY NOVEL!!!!!!!!!!!
By way of thanks to my Support Team...(you know who you are)....YOU PEOPLE ARE CRAZY! (AWESOME, but crazy)!! I have no idea why you put up with me. Jus' sayin'.
Guys, do you know how awesome 50K feels?
Not as awesome as you'd think when you still have a fourth of the story left to write...lol.

Being a Writer.
Being a writer.
I can honestly say that that is probably the best writing prompt I have ever been given.
Guys, I dont know about the rest of you, but for me, writing isn't just something that I do because I'm forced. It's not something I do because I am bored (though, I do use it as such). It's not something that I do because I'd like to be famous some day, or so that I can maybe earn a living from it in the future (though, that would be nice...working mainly from home and all....). Writing means something more to me. It's a part of who I am. It a way for me to escape my crazy-hectic-insane-busy-exausting-life. (No, not really--I have a great life...for the most part. but let's face it. We all have THOSE days.) It's a way for me to escape to a fictitious place when reality gets chaotic.
It's a place for me to be creative. The only place I have complete freedom. Guys, Let me tell you (speaking to those who don't write, but Especially to those who do) writing for me is my freedom. I love writing because even when I'm told, "I cant do that." or "Hey, that's not right," or "Here, let me show you how to do it correctly." I can say, "No. This is my story, this is how it's gonna be." Now, obviously, I have people who dont like what I've written. (Ha, my siblings more than cover that.) They don't like it when I kill of Mr. Favorite or when I let Miss Evil get away with something. But I love the fact that I have control.
Guys, I dont really know the definition of a "control freak", but I know that I kinda (like, I REALLY) like to have things my way. Compromising is hard for me. I dont like it. I like my idea better. And I'm not happy until I have my way MY WHOLE WAY. I'm willing (usually after a fuss) to give up part of what I want when it comes to what color we paint the bed---(Em, I still think Silver and coral, or green and purple) ... or agree to go to Wendy's instead of Chick-fil-A. But I LOVE the fact that I can have my way with my writing no matter what....
Which brings me to another point. I love the fact that I can have my way with my writing no matter what....UNLESS it messes with what I believe as far as my faith goes. Guys, Let me TELL you. I cant even COUNT the times I've had to go over very carefully what I believe is OK because something that I have written doesn't line up with Scripture or what we believe is God's calling for our family. Like dating. GEEZ it is hard to write about two teenage main characters--one guy and one girl--and not have them fall in love at the end. Oh. My. Word. Okay so now I sound like a typical teen girl. I like nice, clean, sweet romance stories as long as there is a larger plot than just the romance. (No Twilight or The Fault in Our Stars for me, thankya-very-much.)
I dont date. Don't plan to in the near future, either. I just don't really see a point to dating in highschool. But knowing that for my personal life and applying it to someone fiction is hard for me. I think that's why I like writing historical fiction. Because kids got married when they were sixteen-seventeen-ish.(not to mention I love the 17-1800s time period, too.)
That being said, I really have to focus while writing modern-day stuff to leave out the lovey-stuffs. I honestly can say that I like a sweet, close friendship better than a love relationship when it comes to reading. I like the fact that it's totally open and fun and nothing is gonna change that. Which brings me to two of my newest characters, Austin and Myres. I believe I've mentioned them in previous posts--they're the two main characters in the Lennox story. Austin is a girl, Myres a guy. They've been best friends for ever and a day. See? Fun, good, open. No lovey-stuffs. But it is hard to keep it that way.
Okay, I'm rambling now, and have been for the last two or three paragraphs.
So to sum it up in 3 sentences:
I love being a writer. I'd encourage you all to try writing sometime! It's great.
